Here are some pictures of the infamous 1981 Van Scoy Diamond Mines 500 at Pocono.
The first few were taken with a 110 format snapshot camera by some kid [cough], so please excuse the quality.
Front row on pace lap - Foyt in a March, McElreath in a dinosaur Eagle (qualifying was rained out and positions determined by a random draw),
and Sneva in a March (CART team participating, despite CART's boycott of the event and threats of suspension for any it's
members that crossed over).

The field comes down to the green flag:

The tail end of the field -- the Silver Crown cars -- take the green:
-----
Harry McDonald (45 - Lola) Smokey Snellbaker (54 - Silver Crown) Note - don't believe the box score in the other thread that says Snellbaker drove PC-7!
It's also wrong about Jack Hewitt in an Eagle - he was in a SC car, too. There were 8 Silver Crown cars and
21 "Gold Crown" (Indy) cars....box score from the newspaper (see below) will confirm.

Headline story from the next day's The Pocono Record. Apologies for the article being cut off.
Someone else did the scan for me and wasn't as meticulous as completionists would have hoped.
-----
Continuation of the story. Interesting comments regarding the political status of the sport at that time.

Box score below an article about the Silver Crown "race within a race"

Mix of cars under caution. Don't be deceived by this shot -- when under green,
the SC cars ran their own groove way at the bottom of the track.

From the USAC News newsletter:

Another combination shot. That's Vern Schuppan leading Snellbaker and another SC car:
